Your First Visit
When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment we will spend the first 15-20 minutes discussing your health history, including your primary complaint, a review of major physiological systems (e.g., digestive, circulatory, reproductive), as well as any current diagnoses and medications. While your current symptoms may not appear directly related to past health issues, Chinese medicine is built on the premise that the human body operates holistically, meaning that all parts and systems interact with and influence one another.
After discussing your health history and primary complaint, I will gather additional diagnostic information by feeling your pulse and abdomen. While each treatment is tailored to the unique history, complaint and constitution of the patient, I generally provide patients with both front and back treatments, meaning that needles are retained for approximately 10-15 minutes on either side of the body. Moxibustion and cupping are also utilized based on specific needs of the patient.
While it is common to experience a variety of different sensations during the course of treatment, most patients find acupuncture to be deeply relaxing. I have extensive experience treating first-time and needle-sensitive patients, and will tailor my treatments to accommodate even the most sensitive individuals. My goal is to provide effective treatments that are both relaxing and restorative.
